Types of Road Safety Barriers

Selection of the proper safety barrier is crucial for traffic management and accident prevention. Each barrier type is designed to meet specific road challenges for maximum protection. Anton Solutions offers three main types of highway guardrails designed to serve various environments and conditions:

  • Flexible Barriers: Flexible barriers, such as high-tension cable barriers, dissipate energy through deflection. They offer a cushioning effect where there is a reduction in the amount of damage imparted to the vehicle and minimal severe crashes. Such barrier types are appropriate for places where controlled deflection is permissible.
  • Semi-Rigid Barriers: Semi-rigid barriers strike a balance between flexibility and rigidity. Examples are the W-Beam systems, which can contain and redirect vehicles while offering some deflection. This type of barrier is appropriate for those locations where both redirection and minimum deflection are required.
  • Rigid Barriers: Rigid barriers, like concrete walls, provide the highest containment and redirection with minimal or no deflection. They are used in high-impact zones, such as bridges and roadways that have limited lateral space, where maximum protection is vital.

    Engineering and Technical Aspects of Our Road Safety Barriers

    The performance of road safety barriers is an outcome of advanced engineering combined with strategic design. Anton Solutions tests each system against rigid safety standards while addressing specific road challenges.

  • Crashworthiness and Testing Standards: Our barriers meet international standards like MASH and NCHRP 350. The Ezy-Guard 4 system meets MASH Test Level 3 (TL3) requirements, tested with vehicles from 1100kg to 8000kg. Extensive testing ensures our barriers withstand diverse vehicles and crash conditions.
  • Deflection and Energy Absorption: Ezy-Guard 4’s dynamic deflection of 1.65 meters under MASH TL3 absorbs energy, reducing rollovers. Its Z-post design bends to minimize impact, enhancing safety for vehicle occupants.
  • Constructed from hot-rolled steel, hot dip galvanized for durability, Ezy-Guard 4 ensures long-lasting performance. Flexible Z-posts enhance energy absorption and maintain occupant safety in harsh conditions.
  • Advanced Barrier Systems for Different Applications

    Bridge Barriers:

    These barriers protect critical bridge structures, such as piers and abutments, against high-impact collisions. Our bridge barriers are engineered to provide maximum containment while reducing the risk of vehicles entering sensitive bridge areas.

    Roadside and Median Barriers

    Our barriers are designed for both roadside and median installations, offering effective containment for a variety of road situations. Systems, like the Four Wire System tested to NCHRP 350 TL-4, are built to handle high-speed impacts, ensuring safety for medians and road edges.

    Sand Mitigation Barriers

    In areas prone to sand encroachment, like desert highways, our sand mitigation barriers help maintain road visibility and safety. These barriers are crafted to withstand harsh conditions, ensuring they stay effective over time
